Margaret Houlton, soprano, has performed solo work with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Plymouth Music Series, Kenwood Symphony, Mississippi Valley Orchestra, University of Minnesota Opera Theater, Minnesota Opera Outreach Program, Voices of Vienna, Thursday Musical, members of the Minnesota Orchestra, and Philomusica of Minnesota. She placed first in Minnesota scholarship competitions held by the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Schubert Club, Voices of Vienna, and Scheussler School of Music, and in 1997 she was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the Upper Midwest Region. Opera roles include Micaela in Carmen, Nannetta in Falstaff, Meg in Ballad of Baby Doe, Amor in Orfeo et Euridice, Moppet in Paul Bunyan, and Cathleen in Riders to the Sea. Ms. Houlton graduated from St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Arts and holds a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota. Ms. Houlton now acts as a board member of the Schubert Club and Mississippi Valley Orchestra, as well as Vice President of A and R Pistachios. Ms. Houlton has done extensive fundraising and event coordinating for Minnesota Dance Theatre, Minnesota Opera, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and the Twin Cities Opera Guild, and lives in Edina with her husband Andrew, son Joseph, and daughter Elizabeth. Margaret Houlton performs in private recitals, weddings, funerals, and fundraising events. She also acts as coordinator for Arts events, auditions, and benefits.
